Throughout the book, Charles Dickens emphasizes the difference between appearance and reality through Pip’s expectations of something better, social status, and settings in the book. The most important illusion Great Expectations is Pip’s confident expectations of a better life. Pip began the book out poor, and was sent for to spend time.   When we eventually landed in Colombia we were more than surprised to find, that most of the things we expected to find didn’t really exist. We were confronted with reality and realized, that our expectations were far off from reality. In this video, we will talk about several expectations we had and how reality looks like for us.

And, while it’s true that I think we often expect too much, having travel let us down is only one side of the expectations vs. reality coin.

Expectation vs. reality. Strong stuff, these expectations! Psychology has long emphasised the power of beliefs and expectations to shape reality, but how far does this go? Can we anticipate ourselves into getting whatever we want out of life? You may recall massive interest about 10 years ago in a self-help book and DVD called ‘The Secret’.   This story is a personal experience of mine. It talks about the struggle the average Nigerian medical graduate goes through, in securing an internship placement. It also is motivating and inspirational, as it promotes self-motivation and the need to always find a way. Nevertheless that it is more relatable to a Nigerian medical graduate, it is a good read for anyone and everyone across all .
